the project for Pirelli 39 in Milan is an organic building that should behave like a center of attraction able to “take root” like a large tree.
The Tree Tower draws inspiration from the image of a tree that anchors its roots deep into the land while reaching toward the sky — a symbol of connection and growth. The roots, reinterpreted as a network of urban pathways and pedestrian plazas, extend from the base of the building, integrating it into the surrounding fabric and creating vibrant public spaces.
The complex consists of two vertical volumes: a taller, slender tower housing office spaces, and a more compact, welcoming tower dedicated to hospitality. While autonomous in function, the two bodies engage in dialogue through internal connections and a shared base, acting as the “trunk” of the architectural organism.
The continuous façades are articulated by a lattice of exposed crossed steel structural elements, evoking the organic pattern of branches. This structural skin not only lends a strong iconic identity but also optimizes resistance to seismic forces and wind, while filtering natural light.
The result is a contemporary landmark that blends sculptural presence with urban functionality, expressing an architecture deeply rooted in its place yet reaching toward the future.
