The renovation of Building 14 is part of a broader enhancement project for the Adriano Buzzati-Traverso Campus in Monterotondo, originally developed in the 1980s by Eniricerche and later acquired by the National Research Council (CNR) in 1996.
The campus spans approximately 126,000 square meters and hosts 28 single-story buildings, six of which serve as offices and laboratories for various internationally recognized research institutions.
In preparation for the major renovation of the EMBL headquarters—an international research organization specializing in basic life sciences and funded by public research contributions from over 28 member states—it became necessary to upgrade one of the other campus buildings, as research activities cannot be interrupted. Building 14 was therefore redeveloped to serve as a conference hall and educational laboratories.
Previously used by the CNR for examinations and left in a state of semi-abandonment for several years, Building 14 has now been transformed into a 100-seat conference room equipped with advanced audio-visual technology, enabling simultaneous broadcasts across all European locations. The building also includes a foyer to accommodate conference-related functions (welcome desk, registration, coffee breaks) as well as offices and laboratories designed for educational use. This transformation allows for a comprehensive training experience by combining theoretical learning in the conference hall with hands-on practice in the adjacent labs.
